چکیده

Our aim was to determine the effect of rutin, a flavonol glycoside on ethanol induced hepatic lipid accumulation in experimental rats. Male albino Wistar rats were randomized into four groups. Groups 1 and 2 received isocaloric glucose. Hepatic injury was induced in groups 3 and 4 by administering 20% ethanol via intragastric intubation for 60days. In addition, groups 2 and 4 were given rutin (100 mg/kg) daily for the last 30 days of the experiment. Ethanol alone administered rats showed a significant increase in the levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), free fatty acids (FFA), phospholipids (PL), low density lipoproteins (LDL) and very low density lipoproteins (VLDL) with a concomitant decrease in the levels of high density lipoproteins (HDL). Haematoxylin and eosin staining of the liver of ethanol alone fed rats showed inflammatory cell infiltrates and fatty changes Supplementation with rutin reversed the ethanol induced alterations in lipid profile and also restored the liver histology which appeared similar to the control rats. Together the results obtained clearly reveal the protective effects of rutin against lipid accumulation in the circulation and

Glycine modulates hepatic lipid accumulation in alcohol-induced liver injury.

We studied the effect of administering glycine, a non-essential amino acid, on serum and tissue lipids in experimental hepatotoxic Wistar rats. All the rats were fed standard pellet diet. Hepatotoxicity was induced by administering ethanol (7.9 g kg(-1)) for 30 days by intragastric intubation. Control rats were given isocaloric glucose solution. Glycine was subsequently administered at a dose o...

Green Tea (Camellia sinensis) Supplementation to Diabetic Rats Improves Serum and Hepatic Oxidative Stress Markers

Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic disorders and is interrelated to oxidative stress-induced diseases. According to the role of dietary antioxidants in control and prevention of diabetes, this study was aimed to evaluate the effect of green tea extract on serum glucose levels and serum and hepatic total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and lipid (MDA) in diabetic rats. Experimental diabetes...

Glycine prevents hepatic fibrosis by preventing the accumulation of collagen in rats with alcoholic liver injury.

We studied the effect of administering glycine, a non-essential amino acid, on liver collagen content and its characteristics in experimental hepatotoxic Wistar rats. All the rats were fed standard pellet diet. Hepatotoxicity was induced by orally administering ethanol (7.9 g kg(-1)) for 30 days. Control rats were given isocaloric glucose solution. Protective Effects of Eugenol against Hepatotoxicity Induced by Arsenic Trioxide: An Antileukemic Drug

Background: Arsenic trioxide (As2O3) has shown effectiveness in the treatment of leukemia, but it is also associated with hepatotoxicity. Given antileukemic drug-induced oxidative stress and toxicity, this study focused on the mitigatory role of eugenol, a monoterpene compound from clove oil, in the hepatic tissue of Wistar rats. Methods: Twenty-four male Wistar rats (180–250 g) were randomly di...
